Here are the Spring Brain Teasers :
 

1.   A delightful spring flower imported from Turkey shares its name with a Hampshire watermill. Do  you know which mill it is?

 

2.  2.   It forms part of the mill building but where will you find a lucam (also spelt luccam, luccum, lucum and luccombe)?                                   

Here are the answers to the Winter Quiz:

1.  The lovely mill with oast houses attached is Isington Mill and was the home of Field Marshal Sir Bernard “Monty” Montgomery from 1948 until his death on 25th March 1976.  He is buried in nearby Bentley churchyard.

2.  An Annular Sail is one which has vanes fixed in a circle such as Crux Easton – see the ad below. Normally found on windpumps for pumping water.  See www.morsewindengines.co.uk. for more fascinating examples.

  3. The west country term for fulling mills is tucking mills There is much dispute about the word origins
