Bradbourne Watermill

From Derbyshire Life magazine

Angela Smith noticed that the latest issue of Derbyshire Life has an interesting article about a luxury self-catering watermill just west of Carsington Water in the village of Bradbourne near Ashbourne.

It accommodates 16 people in 7 bedrooms and costs over £3000 for a week in high season.  It is also available for private and corporate hire.

The current watermill was built in 1726 and was the oldest working example in Derbyshire.  The wheels can still be turned using water from the upper and lower mill ponds.  Many remains of the original wooden machinery have been retained.  The living room is on the stones floor (pictured right), and some bedrooms are in the grain bins (below left);  a ‘champagne bar’ has been built alongside the great spur wheel and hurst frames (below right).

The mill is available to let from English Country Cottages.  These pictures are from their website.
